Our Client a large company involved in the commissioning of a new railway project has a fixed term contract position for a Construction Manager: Signals in the Volksrust, Amersfoort area of Mpumalanga.
To function as a contract manager on Signalling projects, utilizing the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure successful execution of projects, by meeting present objectives as set by the client
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and attributes: [
A relevant B-Tech / National Diploma in Electronics is required, registration with SACPCMP & /or ECSA as Pr. Eng or Pr Technologist will be advantageous.
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required.
Drivers Licence code 8 (code EB) is required.
Previous experience: Signaling & Telecoms installation and construction activities with a thorough working knowledge of Transnet Rail standards.
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, Standard Engineering Codes of Practise, Project engineering, management and execution, Contract administration, Estimating and tendering procedures, Budgeting and financial control, Safety management, Transnet Signalling standards, procedures and systems, Quality management, Sound Knowledge of railway signalling systems, knowledge of OHS Act (Act 85 and Construction Regulations).
Budget control, Construction execution, Planning & Organizing, Computer literacy, Conflict management, Time management – capable of meeting tight deadlines.
Key Performance Areas:
Lead and direct day to day activities of Signalling Installation/construction Teams, ensuring timely completion of signalling work (planning and delivery), whilst maintaining the integrity and security of signalling equipment.
Undertake liaison with Project Engineers to ensure that all engineering installation related issues are resolved in a timely and cost effective manner.
Establish initial needs and requirements of clients through detail, organising and the provision of recommendations regarding alternatives to ensure client satisfaction. . Ensure successful project execution and completion by managing cash flow, contract administration, safety responsibilities, site investigations, quality assurance, project team, time and cost management.
The management and control of tasks within time, cost and quality constraints against the background of knowledge and standard procedures and techniques.
Deliver systems of planning, reporting progress and inspections to ensure projects are implemented and completed to time, cost and quality.
Ensuring high safety standards are adhered to by ensuring compliance with Rules and Regulations and Statutory Legislation during the delivery stages.
Ensure staff and Contractor’s installation teams attitudes to personal safety and all requirements to the Health & Safety at Work regulations are adhered to and promoted.
Should be able to show a good balance between the development of innovative concepts (creative ability) and the use of standard procedures.
Maintain the balance between the technical effectiveness of solutions and acceptable costs, within the available time span.
Establish framework for execution of the project by design and drawings, detailed programming techniques, contract documentation and specification writing. Responsible for training and development of sub-ordinates. Compilation of weekly and monthly construction reports.
