DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of the Chief Data Scientist falls within the Design Enablement Cluster and forms part of the Enterprise Data Management function. As the impact of big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence becomes central to our success, we require a competent senior data scientist to provide focused leadership, including thought leadership in building and growing a deep data science capability within the Company. The aim is to professionalise data science as a discipline for envisioning and executing enabling strategies that is insight driven and evidence based in order to improve our overall business performance. Increasingly, this capability will automate routine processing task, and transpose analytical tasks into artificially intelligent insights.

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

Relevant PhD or Master’s Degree (NQF 9) AND 8- 12 years’ experience of which 4- 6 years ideally at a senior level within a data science environment.

ALTERNATIVE

Relevant Honours degree Post Graduate Diploma (NQF 8) AND 10 15 year’s related experience

Specific accountabilities will include, but may extend beyond the following:

PEOPLE

Performance Management of staff for effective Employee Engagement Performance Excellence.

Engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective management of interdependencies.


PROCESSES GOVERNANCE
Translating business requirements into evidence based insights, using data science capability for the improved use of artificial intelligence using big data and data analytics.
Development of visualizations and machine learning algorithms.

Drawing on structured and unstructured data sets, designs and provides innovative and complex analytic models.
Enabling an engagement model with taxpayers and other stakeholders that is informed by the detection of trends, themes and risks to produce improved insights and outcomes with high integrity.
Provision of data products, software platforms and useful business representations and reports to support decision making and performance management.
 Provides in sights that informs enterprise and divisional strategies.
 Catalyze and support a culture and practice of disruptive innovation within the Company that is grounded in insights from data towards the creation of additional enterprise value.

FINANCIAL
Prepares Data Science Resource Plan.
Provide input into Company Resource Plan Enterprise Strategy.
Complies with all requirements of PFMA and relevant Treasury and Company policies and regulations.
