Excellent opportunity for a strong CA (SA) preferably from an FMCG background with vast knowledge of tax, GAAP, IFRS, Transfer Pricing, Internal Controls etc. Must have knowledge of SAP, Hyperion and BI Reporting and minimum 3 years experience in an FMCG environment.

Highly reputable International FMCG company is looking for a Chief Accountant with a CA (SA) qualification who will be responsible for the integrity of the general ledger! The key purpose will be to focus on accuracy and timeliness of the financial information contained within the monthly and annual financial and management reports.

Overall management of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Taxes, Statutory Records, Audit, Internal Controls, Annual Financial Statements, Month End Reporting on a National scope.

There will be 5 direct reports, 6 in total team. This role reports to the Finance Director.

Key Contacts: Internal - Nationally - Management Team and other Finance Staff. Internationally - HQ Finance and HQ Operations

External Key Contacts - Auditors, Tax Advisors and Bankers.

  • Compliance with all relevant local legislation and internal group accounting guidelines
  • Ensures that the accounting is correct, transparent and complete
  • The financial statements must present a true and fair view of the financial position, financial performance and cash flows of the reported period
  • Submission of accurate financial information to all stakeholders
  • Assists Finance Director in proactively managing the year end audit process and the external auditors to secure clean Early Warning Memorandums and clean Management Letters strictly avoiding an “Emphasis of Matter” or a “Qualified Opinion”
  • Continuously drives efficiency by streamlining processes and the use of available tools
  • Accounting operations are fully integrated from a process, systems and control perspective
  • Manages relationships with customers to ensure timely repayment of outstanding debt to ensure debtors days remain at predefined levels
  • Supports the Finance Director in establishing an effective tax management in cooperation with the tax specialists in HQ and external tax advisors
  • Supervises the asset accounting in the fixed asset ledger
  • Manages the accounts payables ledger as well as the periodic payment runs
  • Manages the accounts receivable and ensures timely collection of outstanding debts from customers
  • Supervises the bank statement postings as well as the reconciliation of the bank accounts
  • Reconciliation of all tax accounts
  • Guarantees the timely and accurate reporting to local authorities
  • Maintains the general ledger
  • Responsible for the timely compilation of the monthly and annual closings including the communication of the closing timetable
  • Reasonable efforts are taken to ensure collection of outstanding customer debts
  • Carries out depreciation runs, posts all accrual and deferral entries as well as revaluations, write offs and provisions
  • Reconciles all clearing and internal company accounts
  • Prepares the annual statutory financial statements
  • Conducts a thorough review of all monthly reports and financial statements prior to the submission to HQ or authorities in order to make corrections if needed
  • Assist in the preparation of the financial formation of the annual business plan and the forecasting to ensure realistic and credible plans
  • Builds a team of highly engaged and motivated people
  • Develops and updates regularly the job descriptions for all Accounting staff
  • Ensures that sufficient resources are in place and each position is held by a person with the appropriate qualification
  • Agrees on annual objectives and links variable pay to the achievement levels
  • Holds bi annual performance reviews giving clear, honest and fair feedback
  • Promotes development, internal trainings to elevate knowledge levels within the team
  • Assures that all key processes are documented in writing and that checklists are being used
