Warehouse Manager

A large logistics and warehouse company is seeking to employ a warehouse manager in the South of Johannesburg

Managing and overseeing the warehouse as well as the distribution and packaging operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures.


Leading People

  • Ensure weekly and monthly targets are met
  • Implement and maintain a performance management system for all workers
  • Do monthly performance bonuses for all departments according to procedure
  • Approve leave for warehouse workers
  • Manage the time and attendance of the warehouse through
  • Select workers to take part in the Learnership program
  • Plan workforce and work tasks for the busy periods
  • Pay casual worker’s wages on a weekly basis before 12:00
  • Ensure discipline is appropriately achieved and hold subordinates accountable
  • Ensure all documents are up to date
  • Ensure all subordinate’s necessary documentation is submitted to HR
  • Ensure tools and resources are available for the warehouse at all time
  • Develop warehouse workers through conducting yearly firefighting and first-aid training, and renewing forklift license
  • Develop warehouse workers through conducting bi yearly harness, forklift, lifting of boxes, and general safety training
  • Walk the floor daily with the department supervisor to identify and resolve bottlenecks, required resources and productivity and housekeeping matters
  • Improve departments through holding monthly check-ins to identify strengths and weaknesses within the department and coaching the supervisor to display Care and Growth
  • Induct new employees
  • Develop, implement and maintain an induction policy for new warehouse employees
  • Ensure all departments work efficiently and effectively by ensuring policies and procedures are followed and minimum requirements are met
  • Oversee the functioning of warehouse/ packaging departmental managers Ensure warehouse housekeeping is maintained


Manage Stock Movement

  • Conduct stock takes by doing random stock checks in accordance to the stocktake procedure
  • Manage on time and fulfilment ratios
  • Plan for new shipments and products coming in
  • Plan bi-yearly stocktakes with the receiving manager
  • Prepare the schedule Revolving stocktakes and ensure it has been carried
  • Assist the Cape Town Branch with inter branch transfers and stock takes
  • Ensure courier company adherence to the SLA agreement
  • Assist in planning local deliveries to surrounding areas in Gauteng
  • Ensuring the correct policies and processes are being followed with regards to the movement of all stock within the warehouse



  • Ensure that the garden and facility outside is clean
  • Ensure the upkeep of forklifts, sky-jacks, pallet jacks, generator, scales, fire equipment and pest control
  • Ensure the showroom is always clean
  • Ensure the warehouse is in adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and warehouse safety policies

General Role Description

  • Ensure the safeguarding of people through implementing security policies
  • Assist Management with any ad hoc projects/requests at all times
  • Adhering to the ISO requirements and updating it on AutoSHEQ
  • Adhere to the warehouse minimum standards
  • Assist and plan with others when they are understaffed, or when a deadline needs to be made

Key Performance Indicator

  • Warehouse managers holding their staff accountable to their job description, by measure of the General Manager doing random floor walks to observe if policies and procedures are adhered to
  • An improvement in the leadership assessment results since the previous leadership assessment
  • Actively making an effort to work on the growth points identified in the leadership assessment (Care, Means, Accountability and Ability)
  • An improvement in the effectiveness in each department through performance improvements (picking and replenishment records submitted annually*)
  • 6 valuable improvements made to warehouse processes (unique contribution
  • Deviation of <1% in stock gains and losses per annum vs total stock holding
  • Maintenance deadlines adhered to, and check sheets are done correctly and noted down in a performance book

Experience and Qualifications

  • 8 years in warehousing and logistics 
  • 5 years proven team management experience
  • Previous experience working extensively with third-party logistics service providers or related is essential.
  • Warehouse management systems experience advantageous
  • 5 year’s working experience with Ruwag as Supervisor in warehouse environment
  • Proven track record of great leadership
  • Matric non-negotiable
  • Degree in Warehousing, Distribution, Logistics or Supply chain management beneficial
