The purpose of the Cost Estimator is to accurately input the raw material and labor data to determine market related prices to secure production order.

Key Responsibilities 
Operational Efficiency and excellence:
  • Production costing knowledge: the ability to read engineering drawings, understand a Bill of Materials (BOM) and apply the best (LEAN) manufacturing processes and materials to ensure a cost competitive solution.
  • Temporary and permanent costing’s: the ability to use the production costing models to provide accurate and detailed cost estimates to stakeholders
  • Input costing knowledge: the ability to revise and challenge all input costs associated with a Cost Estimate (CE).
  • Document management: the ability to accurately file and store data pertaining Request for Price (RFPs) – local and international, CEs, quotations and any relevant documentation pertaining to a CE.
  • Needs to be able to work under pressure without supervision 
  • To provide innovative ideas pertaining to the products and services offered by Company. This relates to the materials, business processes and outsourcing activities. 
Industry knowledge:
  • Continue to develop industry knowledge by visiting suppliers, doing trade visits and keeping abreast with credible information pertaining to the changes in the industry. 
Supply chain management:
  • An understanding of both material and process suppliers and the offerings they provide, and the costs of these offerings.
  • An understanding of clients – their categories and brands and the prices of previous solutions offered. 
Networking and collaboration:
  • Continued relationship building with new and/or existing suppliers and clients.
  • Application of collaborative-negotiation (win-win) approaches which benefit, Company, suppliers, customers and the environment. 
Cost Analysis:
  • Provide basic analysis information between cost and sell prices for processes and materials, and the details thereof.   
  • National Diploma/BCom degree
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ERP System: Reporting, processing and analysing
  • Adequate skills in Excel, PowerPoint and email management
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and maintain composure when a variety of demands are required
  • Verbal and written communication skills that relay a message/instruction effectively without creating offence or tension
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in schematics, electronic diagrams and drafting technical reports
  • Understanding of audio and visual technologies including display technologies
