Head of Planning (CPT) - Reporting to the Supply Chain Executive

An exciting opportunity exists within the Apparel division of a diversified, multinational consumer brands business. The Apparel Division includes a number of well known aspirational brands such as Diesel, Superdry, Vans, Hurley and Jeep.

The purpose of this role will be to maximise the profitability of the Market by building and driving commercial strategies. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of merchandising best practise to ensure delivery of specific trading activity in conjunction with key strategic business goals.

The role is also key to driving cross functionality across key departments within the Market and in conjunction with the Brand Principal; whilst ensuring strategic objectives are achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the Merchandise Planning and Allocations team.
  • Working with the Brand & Marketing Executive; Retail Operations and Brand Principal in shaping the market merchandising strategy.
  • Effectively highlighting local needs and escalating these for consideration in the business strategy.
  • Directing and steering the enhancement of all merchandising systems and tools to suit world class merchandising practice.
  • Being aware of and contributing towards improvements in Allocation and Replenishment (A&R) techniques; as they apply to all the Branded Retail Stores as well as the Global Brands Outlet Stores.
  • Driving the framework for key promotional analysis techniques (proactive and reactive).
  • Driving the regular analysis of competitor activity and preparing a comprehensive report to the Executive Team (pre-, in- and post-season).
  • Reviewing and guiding the overall market and competitive pricing strategy and delivering a comprehensive pricing policy based on the results and business goals (pre-, in- and post-season); in conjunction with the Brand Management Team and the Executive Management.
  • Contributing to a set of key merchandising reports that facilitates the formalized evaluation of the business goals and ensures that this is rolled out within the teams.
  • Managing and approving Open-To-Buy (OTB) of the market as it applies to all Channels for trading.
  • Working jointly with Store Operations and driving development to ensure grading/option plan is in line with Space and Visual management (pre-season).
  • Ensuring integration of ratio management in all merchandising activities.
  • Ensuring best practice is actioned for in-depth analysis to support buying commitment decisions.
  • Reviewing and actioning fact-based category input and feedback for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Guiding the teams for best practice end-to-end in-season management including management of best sellers and worst sellers, in-season stock cover management, in-season reactivity and sales to space management using the tools available such as the Weekly Stock Sales and Intake (WSSI); and in conjunction with QLIK Category Reporting; IQ Retail POS.
  • Providing guidance and strategy for execution of end of season stock management.
  • Overseeing the optimal flow of merchandise incl. fulfilment of product/marketing introduction deadlines/ capacity planning; in conjunction with the Retail Merchandising Plan for the Business.
  • Working collaboratively with Brand, Marketing, Visual Merchandising (VM) and Store Operations.
  • Store visits as needed and advised by Line Management (expected ratio office/travel is 80%/20%).
  • Ensuring the given budget is invested to achieve targets by effective use of range planning.
  • Finalising the Monthly Reporting by Brand & Channel and contributing to the Financial reporting as required by the Executive Management.
  • Supporting the Brand and Operations Teams in Business reviews and for preparation/reporting for the Monthly Business MANCO Meeting.
  • Overseeing the management of functional relationships between the Company and the Brand Principal, suppliers and internal/external stakeholders to ensure the achievement of operational deliverables; in line with the accepted Contractual requirements as it pertains to each Brand.
  • Ensuring effective people development and alignment within each Brand in order to build capacity and capability to meet current and future business objectives.
  • Contributing to the development of a merchandising training program and implementing at market level.
  • Enabling an effective practice of people management processes in order to create a productive work environment that is aligned with the Company Vision and Values.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Essential: Bachelor degree in Commerce/Business Administration.
  • Desirable: Honours/Masters degree.
  • Essential: A Minimum of 5 years experience at Senior Management level managing a team within a Brand / Retail / Fashion environment.
  • Significant experience in leading a team responsible for the successful delivery of Brand Outcomes including total sales, and financial performance.
  • A strong background in facilitating the sales performance of a Brand within a multi-brand organization through Merchandising excellence in Retail.
  • Effective management of projects with Brand; and exposure to procurement and Supply Chain requirements to deliver against Brand and Marketing Plans in region.
