Quantity Surveyor At least 7 - 10 Years Civil Construction Industry Experience

Purpose of this Position

The Quantity Surveyor interprets and measures work accurately from drawings, is responsible for the drafting of monthly cost reports, cash flow projections, interim valuations, price variations, processing supplier certificates and payments, processing subcontractor certificates and payments, managing subcontractor retentions and carrying projects to final account stage.

Qualification and Other Requirements

  • Matric Certificate
  • National Diploma Quantity Surveying, B.Tech Or B.Sc
  • Drivers licence
  • Excellent command of English, Afrikaans and Xhosa would be an advantage (Oral and Written)

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Mathematical, Verbal and Numerical reasoning skills
  • Attention to detail and checking skills
  • Understand contract documentation (Bill of Quantities and drawings)
  • Interpret drawings (engineering, architectural) and measure according to standard system of measuring
  • Knowledge of construction specifications (COLTO / SANS)
  • Understand supplier and subcontractor agreements
  • Understand contract/principal agreements (FIDIC 1999 / GCC / NEC3)
  • Understand construction programmes
  • Analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel (Advanced), Projects (Intermediate) and ability to use of search engines e.g. Google)
  • SAGE X3 (advantageous)
  • Lula Build / CCS (advanced)
  • Supervisory skills
  • Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Company safe work procedures
  • Financial skills
  • Negotiation and assertiveness skills

Roles and Responsibilities

Measuring and Preparation of Interim Valuations

  • Measure progress of works conducted at cut off dates, compare various trades and receive measurements from subcontractors; incorporate all measurements into interim valuation; calculate escalation
  • Check material on site, draw up schedule
  • Submit payment certificates to Resident Engineer or Professional Quantity Surveyor as per contract deadline

Payment of Suppliers and Subcontractors

  • Review claimed quantities; reconcile (including rates aligned to agreements); rectify over claims
  • Reconcile variations between paid and certified rates; discuss legitimate variations with Site Management

Administration

  • Maintaining of Schedules e.g. Supplier and Subcontractor Schedule, Contract Instruction Schedule, Material Reconciliation Schedule, Contra-charge Schedule

Cost Reporting

  • Draw Cost information from SAGE X3 ERP. Take allowable from Lula Build / CCS
  • Compare costs vs allowables vs revenue; make the necessary adjustments; report monthly on profit vs loss.

Variations to Contract

  • Receive variations – revise to drawing and written contract instructions; measure and price variations and inform Site Management

CTC Salary negotiable (dependent on experience) includes Single Quarters Accommodation and Living Away Allowance
